Drunken Dragon Games — A Potential Cardano NFT Blue chip?
The Game and Community
The long-term vision of Drunken Dragon Games (DND) is to be an online role play game (RPG). You may think this will just be another one of these projects that promises something they will never deliver. However, DND differs vastly from your average NFT project and in the following passages, I will show you why the project has real potential to be one of Cardano’s blue chips.
The general format of the game is an open world in which you can go questing. If you are successful in these quests, you will be handsomely rewarded. In order to tackle such quests, you must hold Grandmaster Adventurers (the original 10K NFT drop of DND) or certain Pixel Tiles (FTs that can either be earned through the DND staking pool or upcoming drops). You may be wondering about those who cannot afford NFTs and FTs, but the dev team has you covered! Every player will get a free character to start with, therefore, DND will be free to play. Questing is just one aspect though, there is much more. For example, players will have the opportunity to own a tavern within the world of DND. Pixel Tiles will serve as furniture, bar maidens, playable characters, and much more. You will even be able to host others in your tavern (also called Inn) and provide them with food, drinks, or other resources that they may need. Through the products and services that you provide, your guests will be able to gain back their health and will subsequently be ready for new adventures. In return, you will receive money. In essence, you will be able to run your own virtual business.
Okay, tell me more. How will the game look like?
The game will be in pixel art style. I must admit, this initially turned me off. Although, after thinking about it for a while, I found it to be advantageous. It is easier to develop pixelated games than 3D games. Furthermore, the overall interest in pixel art is rising. Many indie game development studios have already launched and are planning to launch games with very similar art styles. The reception of these pixel art games’ customers has been highly positive so far. Also, don’t forget that pixel can also be sexy. Let me provide you with an example:
Pixel Tile Series 2 Tavern Maiden
This is the first Series 2 Pixel Tile that was shown to us during the last development update. Besides the new bar maiden, they also presented a short demo of the Inn:
Early Version of the Inn
This early version of the game is called “Inns” and the alpha will be launched in the fourth quarter of 2021 on mobile devices. It will serve as a display for your Pixel Tiles and Grandmaster Adventurers (GMAs). Hence, this will be like a fish tank experience. However, this is just the start. The alpha version of the actual open world role play game will be launched in Q1 of 2023. By Q4 2023, there will be an official launch on desktop.
Others that I spoke with thought this to be a negative, however, I see it as a positive. While other projects promise to launch the final version of their game within a few quarters, DND is taking a different and more long-term-oriented approach. This kind of approach is what also made Cardano so interesting for me, slow and steady wins the race. Additionally, DND does not only take a page from the Cardano playbook, but also one of the Tesla playbook. Similar to the famous technology company, DND is doing next to no advertising. The dev team lets the product speak for itself, and it seems to be working out very well so far.
The community is welcoming and lovely. Instead of people incessantly concerned about floor prices, they look at the progress being made and the artwork. This crystallizes the cult followings that have been slowly spreading within the community. One example is the maiden gang. Many memes are going around and people have a lot of fun with the female pixel tile characters. The engagement can also be seen in community-led projects. Terrorhertz is one of these highly engaged members, he is writing a newspaper called “The Drunken Herald” which can be found in the discord.
The Team
Now that you already know a lot about the game and the community of DND, let’s talk about the people who created and are constantly working on DND.
The people in charge are Vledic and Ferraz and there are several interviews of them on YouTube. I can only suggest that you watch all of these, as each contains some hints and tidbits that you probably weren’t aware of. Moreover, something else will become abundantly clear, and that’s the team is incredibly passionate about their project. Vledic attended several events, including CNFTCon and the Cardano Summit. Don’t expect an average game developer, he is always dressed up and prepared with the proper makeup to symbolize characters in the DND world. This is not only the case for interviews and events, but also for the development updates, which can be found on the official DND YouTube channel.
Collaborations
Although the team is composed of professionals with lots of experience, it’s well known that things run smoother with good partnerships. One example includes the original 10K NFT drop of the GMAs. These were developed in cooperation with an actual game development company, Playstormstudios.
Now, we will look at a different strength of DND, and that’s the organic growth they’re experiencing. As I mentioned earlier, DND spends no money on advertising, meaning their growth has been purely accomplished through word of mouth. Many famous YouTubers have made videos about them including Coin Bureau, Bitboy Crypto, Play to earn world, and the NFTUpdate.
The price movement of the GMAs
Many people are searching for the next moonshot and are trying to 10x their money in a matter of weeks. This will most likely NOT happen with GMAs. Nonetheless, they are offering something quite rare in the NFT space, price stability. While most other projects are highly volatile, GMAs are not. In fact, it is quite the opposite, the floor price of GMAs has been rising slowly but steadily over the last couple of months.

Summary
People who know me will also be aware of the fact that I rarely talk so positively about a project. Most often I am highly skeptical, but this is not the case for DND. I have tried extremely hard to find negatives in the project, but I could barely discover anything.
DND is an outstanding surprise in the fast-moving world of NFTs. While others are trying to push up floor prices, the DND team focuses on the long-term mission. What they are doing is under promising and over-delivering. Loyal supporters might get rewarded richly, given enough patience and strong hands. I like a great project with a bold vision. However, more than anything, I want to see a competent Dev team with an abundance of love and passion for their project. With that being said, I wish the best of luck to the team and community for all of their future adventures.
